Our current class program grew out of the first Covid lockdown in April, 2020. The classes were successful beyond our wildest dreams! The students who signed up were all brilliant writers. The program quickly grew and became for both the students and Stone Soup staff the high point of our Covid lockdown weeks. The program is now going from success to success. We are finding that the students attending the classes are also now contributing work to our magazine, Stone Soup, to the blogs on our web page, and are also making our annual book length poetry and novel contest even more competitive!
In 2021/2022 we are growing this class program to move beyond the fiction writing with which it started. We are adding filmmaking in September, 2021, and are talking with teachers of poetry and photography. All of our teachers are working artists. We feel passion in our hearts for what we do–and what we do in our classes is inspire our students to feel the same excitement for being expressive through the arts that we feel.
Classes are mostly for students ages 8-14, but we are beginning to expand the age range through high school.
This is an international program–everyone is welcome, where their timezone permits it! So far, we have students from the US, Canada, Saudi Arabia, France, and the UK. Our long-term goal is to offer classes to South Korea, China, and other countries in Asia.
