Welcome, teachers and librarians! Stone Soup, founded in 1973, is the leading publication of writing and art by students under the age of fourteen. This is the international magazine where young writers and artists can get published. Magazines are available as print magazine mailed to your school or library, as a digital magazine and online platform for creative students, and as a 380-450-page book published each December that includes all of the Stone Soup issues for the year, plus selected reviews and blogs from our website.
Stone Soup provides a strong element and vital support for the creative writing side of your literacy and language arts program, by providing model examples of the kind of work your students’ peers have produced and had selected for publication in a magazine and website that is read all over the world. To help educators and program leaders, we have a growing repository of reading suggestions and writing and art activities linked to stories in our archives. Check the Teacher Resources on our website, and read our weekly Newsletter to be altered to new activities published on the site. We also send occasional updates just for teachers and librarians, with ideas on how to use Stone Soup in the classroom or library. And, please contact us if you’d like to blog for us and publish suggestions of your own for how to use Stone Soup with students, to engage them as readers and encourage them as writers. We’d love to hear from you and share your expertise with our community of educators.
Site licenses are available for both schools and libraries. This is the best subscription to get for schools with Chromebooks and iPads as every one of your students and staff can then use the site. Digital subscriptions include current issues, 25 years’ worth of back issues (over 2,000 pages of quality writing by their peers), writing and art projects, new book reviews and blog entries posted weekly, all by writers under the age of fourteen.
How to subscribe? You can subscribe for your school or library in any one of our formats through all of the major magazine agencies such as EBSCO, WT Cox, etc. You can also place your order directly with us by clicking the Subscribe button on this website and selecting one of the (discounted) options for teachers/schools. If you are interested in a site license, or have any other questions for us, please write to us at email@example.com so we can be in contact to directly discuss your needs and answer your questions.
