Stone Soup has published writing and art by young people since 1973. We take the privacy of our contributors, subscribers, and readers seriously — especially the young writers and artists at the heart of what we do.
This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why, and what we do with it.
What We Collect and Why
When you subscribe, we collect your name, email, mailing address (for print), and payment information — because we need these to deliver publications and process your subscription.
When a young writer or artist submits work, we collect the contributor’s name, age, and a parent or guardian’s contact information — because we need to communicate about the submission and get consent before publishing.
When you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address — because that’s how we send it.
When you visit our website, our server automatically logs basic technical information: your IP address, browser type, and which pages you visited. We use cookies to keep you logged in and to understand how people use the site. You can disable cookies in your browser, but some features may not work.
Young Contributors
Stone Soup publishes work by young people up to age 18. We require parent or guardian consent before publishing any work by a minor. We do not collect more personal information from young contributors than what the submission process requires. Parents and guardians can request that we delete their child’s information at any time.
What We Do Not Do
We do not sell your personal information. Ever.
Who We Share Information With
We share information only with the services we need to operate, and then only what is required for them to do their job. We will also share information if required by law.
When a submission is accepted for publication, the contributor’s first name and age appear with their work on our website and in print. This is part of how Stone Soup has always worked — giving young writers and artists credit for their work.
Your Rights
You can ask us to show you what information we have about you, correct it, or delete it. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send. Parents and guardians can exercise these rights on behalf of their children.
Security
We use encryption, secure servers, and limited access controls to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard what you’ve entrusted to us.
Links to Other Sites
Our website links to other resources. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Check their policies before sharing your information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll post the updated version here with a new date.
