An Autumn Storm

An Autumn Storm Rosemary Engelfried

Fog wisping through the Douglas firsRain dripping from the wind-whipped boughsCrisp and cold fresh autumn airThe smell of spruce and dampened earth.

An ocean vista filled with fogLike a misty edge of the worldOnly the ceaseless distant roarBetrays the presence of the waves.

Fog increases the distancesClose Sitka spruce seem farawayThe trees merge into soft pale mistGray rain pours from an ashen sky.

A forest on the ocean cliffsBlown with wild wind and lashing rainThe stark truth of towering treesThe beauty of an autumn storm.
