Nature’s Plea

Aiwen L. Desai

The howl of a wolfDriven from her homeThe wail of an elephantShot down for his precious tusksThe lament of a polar bearWandering in search of untouched iceThey are nature’s plea

The moan of a treeTorn from its sacred groundThe cry of a dolphinCaught in a blood-red netThe scream of a seagullCaught in suffocating oilThey are nature’s plea

A plea to stop destroyingBut instead to createA new worldWhere seagulls fly free,Where dolphins frolic happily,And where elephants graze without fear

It is a plea to repair the equilibrium of natureTo not blot out the stars with smokeBut to dance with themRaising hands, paws, flippers, hoovesIn celebrationOf a darkened worldBrought back to the light
