Orange to Black

Kyle Lotke

Come onCome onCome on

I bolt to the windowQuick as lightning, with a gasp,my mouth drops open

the sun is swiftly sliding into the water,an orange marble sinking into the horizoninfusing the river with orange dye

I thinkwhere does it go?does it sink into the river with a swoosh and a swish?does it dissipate into good dreams for the night?I drift to my bed

I realizeI am a sunsinking into my bed

but I feel nocturnal,my eyes are glued to the ceilingI stareand stare some moreinto the darkness

that darknessthat is feared and lovedthat darkness coating you in blackthat darknesslike the bottom of the oceanthat darknesswishing you good dreamsthat darknessregenerating youuntil the sun seeps inshining in with a warm hellotransforming the darkness to lightgiving hope for a new day
