Roller Skating

Nicky Cannon

The wheelsCrunch over the pea gravelAs sweatCrowds my tomato-red face.My legs are constantly movingPumping with pureAdrenaline.A puddleCrammed with mudStretches over the cement sidewalk.Consumed with laughterAnd joyI am too deliriousTo see the hazard. My bodyIs shot into the airAnd my armsFlailLike a baby pigeonFlying for the first time.My legs areSpatteredWith grime. My aerial adventureConcludesWith a tragicCrash.WaterSpurts outFrom under myBruised body.Drops pitter-patter as theyConnect with land.I sit thereSoakedAbsorbed with how I lookWhat pity watchers must feel. But I am chortlingElatedEven if brieflyAnd even if disastrously ended.I hadDone it.I had roller skated.
