Wishing Star

Hayden Brame

My favorite partOf staying the nightWas afterThe “fun” stuffIt was bundling upAnd going outsideStaring into the deep black skyFinding the perfect starAnd making a wish

After hearingThe fatal newsI went outsideStars magnified with tearsAnd wishingFor timeJust one more yearAfter a secondI took it backIn your eyesWas hidden agonyAnd I couldn’t prolong itMy tearsSoaked the skyAs I pondered the end

When I heard the newsI wasn’t as shockedAs I should’ve beenInsteadI imagined you hearingMy plea

And trying to hold onJust a little more timeFor your favorite

I imagined youPeace etched on your faceAs you sense the changeAnd take your final breath

In the never-ending skyThere is one moreWishing star
