Brett Penman, age 10, shows us what it feels like to play soccer when the ball is moving fast and both teams are on the run. Introduction to this Stone Soup Art Activity This photograph is of Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. The buildings are made of brick or mud brick with white decorations made of white paint. This architecture is similar to that depicted in the painting of Al Aflaj, Saudi Arabia made by Khaled Abdulaziz Ateeg, 12. Khaled's painting was made in the 1970s.

Perhaps it's a vestige of the agricultural heritage here in the Grand Valley in western Colorado, but our school children are released for the summer in mid-May. Growing up in California, we went from Labor Day to Memorial Day, at least. Beginning of September to end of May, or early June. Here, it's been tradition to let them out in May to help on the farms and ranches.

Grand Junction, Colorado is one of those western towns that can't really decide if it wants to be progressive or good ol' boy. Maybe the longtime residents just ignore us newbies (anyone who has been here less than 30 years is pretty much a newbie) and go on just doing what they do. Ranching, mining, farming, hunting, fishing, going to church and loving the occasional air show.
