Humanitarian Service Team

The Humanitarian Service Team is a refugee founded and led non-profit, community-based organization located in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda. The program aims to empower refugees and host communities through charity, awareness and entrepreneurship courses designed to create a sustainable, self reliant life for young refugees and, in so doing, alter harmful perceptions of refugee communities.

Nakivale Refugee Settlement is the eighth largest refugee settlement in the world, hosting more than 41,711 households as of August 2022. In order to support these refugees, the Humanitarian Service Team offers the following initiatives:

  • Education and Skill Building
Helping children and adolescents to access education and helping adults in different vocational fields.
  • Health Scout
A monthly program designed to equip the community in health and first aid skills.
  • Children, Youth and Adolescent Talent Promotion
Promoting and developing youth and adolescents in creative pursuits such as the preforming arts and creative writing.
  • Community Transformation
Providing tools, knowledge and capital to help community members to transform their entrepreneurial ideas into viable business opportunities.
  • Charity
Providing necessities such as shelter, clothing and food to help support the livelihood of community members
