Vivaan, Kartik, 11 Horgen, Switzerland COVID-19 Poem Vivaan Kartik, 11 Once there were so many of humans to be seen a life of peace and happiness was all that could be seen But soon there were too many land became scarce for houses to be built so what we did was destroyed the world forever we cut down trees without any guilt Global warming took over and humans began to sweat “oh what have we done” they cried as they met But what we sowed had to be reaped and nothing could be done panic was rife but action there was none But suddenly a virus struck and global warming was forgotten no car could be seen they were all hiding in a den All was shut including mouths people couldn’t meet and the economy raced south People were not going to office no plane soaring in the air no cars racing past on the road and so we inadvertently learnt to care But then slowly but surely things got better global warming decreased Human socials were revived and lockdowns were eased I hope it wasn’t the disease that helped us learn to save the earth instead of letting it burn It really is a shame that so many had to die for us to learn a lesson and only now we begin to try.

The Virus, a poem by Charlotte Witz, 12
The Virus Charlotte Witz, 12 It came from far away, Says the long ago news of a strange virus, All the way in China. It was a deadly virus, Says all the people in the hospital. It was coming, Says the people running for home, scrambling for a last minute flight. People were scared, Says the near empty store shelves and ghost town silence. It was here, Says the overflowing hospitals, and brand new safety precautions. Nobody could leave their home, Says the stores with the dark windows, and the roads, clear of most cars.
Very Unusual, a poem by Tracy Shi, 11
Very Unusual Tracy Shi, 11 Everybody is at home in the House Siblings shouting at each other every day I think my eardrums would break if I had eardrums, says the House. The TV used so often now I’ll never be able to have a break if I keep being used every five minutes exclaims the TV. Very Unusual Books are now being stacked onto tables taken off of book shelves Being read everyday over and over again. I’ve never been used this much, says many books. Something is out of place Very Unusual I used to be used every day in the morning and afternoon But now I just sit in the garage says the car all lonely. The only time I’m used now is when going to the grocery store. Nobody is rushing to drive to send their kids to school, everybody is all at home. Very Unusual People wearing masks wherever they go carrying hand sanitizer Disinfecting everything from doorknobs to furniture and floors. Very Unusual I say The streets are quiet, Not the usual traffic that comes around this time. When I go outside I can feel the wind in my hair– The birds chirping happily perched in their unbothered trees. As you can see the Earth is quite happy at this time “Alas I can rest some more before it goes back to what it was before” replies the Earth. Very Unusual This is the street, empty, but usually at this time there’s a lot of traffic.
